THERE WILL BE NO THEME INGREDIENT!
Instead, the theme will be BREAKFAST.Competitors will make two dishes with a beverage that must all constitute a meal one would typically have during breakfast. The scoring is as follows:
First Course: Beverage and Small Dish
- 1-10 Presentation
- 1-10 Overall taste
- 1-10 Suitability for breakfast
- 1-10 How well do the beverage and small dish complement each other?
Second Course: Main Dish

10 is the highest score that can be given.
Here is a scale of reference:
- 10 - “I can die happy”
- 9 - Worthy of a Five Star Restaurant
- 8 - Just like mom’s breakfast on a Saturday morning
- 7 - Now I’m ready to face the day
- 6 - Could be worse
- 5 - Average
- 4 - Food as fuel
- 3 - You dirtied the dishes for no good reason
- 2 - “No really, I’m just not that hungry”
- 1 - Bruno, Mojo, or Maple wouldn’t even touch this stuff
Somehow, Amy came up with the very original idea of preparing Bananas Foster as a topping for french toast. Armed with that non-traditional item for a main course, we decided to tie the flambe presentation of the French Toast Foster in to our drink with a flaming coffee. Topped with homemade whipped cream and sugar art, it was a perfect compliment to dip our chocolate biscotti in.
Although we didn’t win, we came REALLY close:
First place was 72.36/80.00 (Team Stamps)
Second place was 72.12/80.00 (Team Beaird)
Be sure to check our our pictures from the event.
Also, here are a couple quicktime movies I took with our camera (these will take a while to download, but I didn’t want to compress them any more than this…):
- Team Stamps’ Apetizer/Drink Presentation (4.5 MB)
- Iron Chef Results Announcement (4.2 MB)
